Something Borrowed Summary

Something Borrowed - Something Borrowed

Emily Giffin

The smash-hit debut novel for every woman who has ever had a complicated love-hate friendship.

Rachel White is the consummate good girl. A hard-working attorney at a large Manhattan law firm and a diligent maid of honor to her charmed best friend Darcy, Rachel has always played by all the rules. Since grade school, she has watched Darcy shine, quietly accepting the sidekick role in their lopsided friendship. But that suddenly changes the night of her thirtieth birthday when Rachel finally confesses her feelings to Darcy's fiance, and is both horrified and thrilled to discover that he feels the same way. As the wedding date draws near, events spiral out of control, and Rachel knows she must make a choice between her heart and conscience. In so doing, she discovers that the lines between right and wrong can be blurry, endings aren't always neat, and sometimes you have to risk everything to be true to yourself.

First time reading this author. A well written story, but even though it seems to have a happy ending, it didn’t make me feel that way. It certainly gives you something to think about.

  • Anxiety!

For a novel about unfaithful friends, I shouldn't have been surprised that it would cause me so much anxiety. It's hard not to love our narrator, Rachel, but at the same time, you also kind of hate her. She says she's always been a nice girl, but I guess even good girls go to the dark side once in a while. I wanted her to get the boy in the end, but I also wanted to see her get caught for her dishonesty. I'm very interested to see the direction Giffin's other novels go.
  • Great Book

A very talented author who has the ability to make you sincerely care for the characters in the books. I read this and Something Blue in 5 days. Loved them both. Highly recommend!
  • Sad when it ended...

This book will make you feel every emotion… You’ll feel connected to all of the characters and you’ll be left wanting more. Good thing there’s a sequel!
  • One to be read again & again

Before the days of my iPad, I purchased this book on a whim, and I must say it's the best 9.99 book I ever bought! Great read, and I must say I saw a lot of a former friend I once had in Darcy (no I did not sleep with her fiancé!) . It's a wonderful book that can be read again and again... Too bad I can't say the same for the movie ;)
