Something Borrowed Summary

Something Borrowed - Something Borrowed is the smash-hit debut novel from Emily Giffin for every woman who has ever had a complicated love-hate friendship.

Rachel White is the consummate good girl. A hard-working attorney at a large Manhattan law firm and a diligent maid of honor to her charmed best friend Darcy, Rachel has always played by all the rules. Since grade school, she has watched Darcy shine, quietly accepting the sidekick role in their lopsided friendship. But that suddenly changes the night of her thirtieth birthday when Rachel finally confesses her feelings to Darcy's fiance, and is both horrified and thrilled to discover that he feels the same way. As the wedding date draws near, events spiral out of control, and Rachel knows she must make a choice between her heart and conscience. In so doing, she discovers that the lines between right and wrong can be blurry, endings aren't always neat, and sometimes you have to risk everything to be true to yourself.

  • Wonderfully written but it’s hard to stomach

Finished in a few days but the plot was hard to stomach. Found myself skipping parts because I wanted to be done with it but not before reading the part where Rachel gets found out. The way Rachel uses her insecurities and jealousy to justify betraying her “best friend” is disgusting. Why would you let someone win by default then betray them? She fought for Dex at the wrong time. Also, if you hate someone that much, don’t be friends with them. This book is good but disappointing as well. I will say that if the movie were more identical to the book, it would’ve been much better.
  • The ending(last few pages) saved the whole story.

I wanted to get done with this book as soon as I started it. I have this weird affliction that i HAVE to finish a book once i start it. I did not like the heroine, the hero, or the good old ‘mean girl villain’. The supporting characters were alright. It was so frustrating to read. I had bought the rest of the books in the series but I am not going to bother reading those. I don’t know why this book has such good reviews? Is it because it is written from the point of view of the person who is ALWAYS blamed in breaking a relationship? So WHAT? Rated: * for the theme * for the supporting characters (Hillary and Ethan....would give half a star if i could) * for the ending.

First time reading this author. A well written story, but even though it seems to have a happy ending, it didn’t make me feel that way. It certainly gives you something to think about.
