The Testing Summary

The Testing - It’s graduation day for sixteen-year-old Malencia Vale, and the entire Five Lakes Colony (the former Great Lakes) is celebrating. All Cia can think about—hope for—is whether she’ll be chosen for The Testing, a United Commonwealth program that selects the best and brightest new graduates to become possible leaders of the slowly revitalizing post-war civilization. When Cia is chosen, her father finally tells her about his own nightmarish half-memories of The Testing. Armed with his dire warnings (“Cia, trust no one”), she bravely heads off to Tosu City, far away from friends and family, perhaps forever. Danger, romance—and sheer terror—await.

This series is literally my favorite dystopian series of all time! Hunger Games is a close second but this is my favorite!

I really liked this book personally. I’d say it’s for ages 12 and older, there is some gory. I liked the idea and concept of the book, and the characters. I have to say in some cases some of the characters decisions are just too...perfect I guess. Even still this is a great read if your looking for something fresh.

this book has mostly 4/5 stars. yeah, no. this book was very flat for me, and felt like a 13 year old opened a document and wrote hunger games fanfiction. the writing was extremely choppy, the relationships forced, and the characters were very cookie cutter. the plot and some of the ideas were interesting, but it all felt like it’d been done before. i felt like i’ve read this book before, and the plot twists weren’t really twists. it all felt bland. a lot of people said it was ‘dark and twisted’ and a really good take. i couldn’t agree less. if anything, it does manage to represent how people feel in school. like we’re all about to be killed if we fail lol

I really enjoyed this book! It was a perfect balance of betrayal, romance, action, and mystery. I would HIGHLY recommend this book! And like Jonathan Mayberry said “all fans of The Hunger Games will simply devour.”
  • Darkness

I don’t appreciate plots where the world’s best and brightest young people gleefully murder one another. The source of this material is darkness.
